Spiritual Formation is the goal of our lives

Spiritual formation is a process and a goal. We are "predestined to be conformed to the image of Christ." That is a big statement that means it is our destiny that we will change (through a process and partnership with God) until we look, feel, think and act like His Son, Christ. Our Christian lives will only work when each part of ourselves is transformed to be like Christ and the Lord is commited to that goal.

So, what does that process look like?

In the chart below, you will see a representation of a "soul" or person. It shows four parts, heart, mind, emotions and body with Christ living at the center of life. As we intentionally take each part of ourselves to Christ, He heals, transforms and makes our thoughts, emotions, hearts and bodies like His - and that is the goal.

Spiritual formation is the process of being formed to look like Christ in each of these areas. As we grow and change, our lives as Christians start to work the way we always thought they should because now Christ is living out through us.

Start with whichever of these areas you feel you need to work on first. As you grow in one area it will affect the others. For example, working in the heart area to learn to be content will effect your emotions, mind and body.

Spiritual disciplines are also part of spiritual formation.
They are a vital part of your intentionally seeking Christ and bringing yourself to Him and a great place to start.
