Longing for a simple life

Doesn't life feel overly complicated?

Doesn't it feel pulled in a dozen different directions all at the same time?

Do you wish to live simply, quietly and in peace? Me too.

As a matter of fact so do most people that come to this site as this is the number one landing page. This means that many of us long for a simple life

To live a simple life is to live from an uncluttered heart

If you were to step away, if you were to let it all go for a moment and asked your heart what was truly important what would your heart tell you?

- Would it say it wants more stuff?

- Might it tell you that it wants to fill every waking moment with busyness?

- Would it really want to live the way it does now?

Then what does your heart want?

Mine wants to slow down and smell the roses.

It wants to delight in the moments of life and the relationships.

It wants to get rid of most of my possessions and get life down to the essentials and maybe just a couple of extras.

It wants a life that revolves around loving Christ.

How about you?

Maybe the heart is just confused not cluttered

It's hard to keep our lives simple when we are assaulted daily and from so many directions with messages of more, more, more. It would seem that living a down-to-earth life could almost be considered un-American because we are not living up to our role as endless consumers.

No matter what you've heard, being poor does not make us holier or being wealthy make us evil. It is not wealth or lack of it that is the question, but about learning to have our needs and wants centered and met in Christ.

Our hearts become filled with the things of the world, or as Paul calls them: "the lust of the flesh and eyes and the pride of life." Yet, our heart truly does know what is most important. We just need to listen.

You could take a quick exercise to find the core values of your heart. This way you would have the perfect guide to get down to the basics - what is most important - and then get rid of everything that gets in the way.

Simple is a lifestyle choice

If your life feels complicated, if it feels stressed, if it feels out of control then make a choice to examine your life in detail and take it to its simpliest form.

- Live humbly before your God

- Learn to live with what you need and within your means

- Find beauty, value, and worth all around you

- Do a good job at whatever you do

- Don't try to be more or less than God's design for you

- Love your family with all you are not all you can buy them

- Own what you actually need and make it simple to care for

- Keep an eternal focus

- Live like one camping this side of eternity, don't take it too seriously and landscape it

How to live life simply

It is the moments that we live fully present with the Lord, walking forward with Him that makes life sweet and precious and simple.

The moments, minutes, hours and days you experience ARE your life.

It isn't coming some day or when you get a new job, or car, or move, or, or, or... It is here now and you can find ways to cherish it and live it fully.

You are making your life with every breath you take, every moment you ignore, every choice to be present right now or to think only in the future.

Life in the making is what our days are about. In the pages to come we will start to gain a picture of what an unencumbered life should look like for you. You and Christ will determine the life style that He desires for you and design a life that is unpretentious in nature and has as it's greatest possesion your relationship with Him.

You can miss your life striving for some day.

Don't stop making plans and goals. Don't give up dreaming and thinking of what could be. These are important and give direction and depth to our futures but while you are dreaming and planning find Christ in the mundane. Look with Him at the roses you pass and bend down and take in the aroma of your life.

Your life is in the making of the moments.

Grow, work, seek after God, live every second with Him, find others to love and serve and enjoy and learn to be thankful in the moment.

This IS your life - this second - this day - dive in and find what is precious and learn to delight in the journey.

Want specific ways for your Christian life to simplify? Try these:

Eternal focus:

Learn how our eternal focus effects our life here today.

What do we really need?

This question is absolutely essential, but let me expand on it.

Simple is about relationships first.

Putting our relationships first changes our priorities on everything.

Declutter Your Life

Declutter your home, work, relationships and make room for your life.

Goals manage our life

If you don't know where you are going, how will you know when you get there?

Boundaries guard your goals

Boundaries are easy, they define who you are, what you want, and what you don't want.

Time Management

If we do not decide what to do with our days it will be decided for us.

Debt and Finances

On the "finances" page you will find more information but we will talk about it just a bit here.
